Government declares 45 victims of Gen-Z movement as martyrs



KATHMANDU: The government has decided to declare 45 individuals who lost their lives during the Gen-Z movement as martyrs.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel informed that the Cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday made the decision to honor those who died during the protests on September 8 and 9 in Kathmandu and various parts of the country.

Minister Kharel said that following a study conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs and other concerned agencies, 45 individuals have been declared martyrs so far, while further assessments are ongoing.

The Cabinet has also approved the Enforced Disappearances Enquiry, Truth Verification, and Reconciliation Fund Regulation 2025. Similarly, it has decided to allocate Rs 53 million to the Disaster Management Fund to assist local levels affected in Ilam district, which has been declared a crisis-hit area.

Likewise, the meeting appointed Deputy Attorney General Ghanshyam Ojha as a member of the Foreign Employment Tribunal.
