BIRGUNJ: Vehicles worth Rs 8.70 billion have been imported through the Birgunj customs point during the first three months of the current fiscal year. According to the Birgunj Customs Office, the government collected Rs 7.77 billion in revenue from vehicle imports during this period.

Chief Customs Administrator Bishnu Prasad Gyawali said both the import volume and revenue from vehicle imports have increased compared to the same period last fiscal year.

During the first three months of the previous fiscal year, vehicles worth Rs 6.19 billion were imported, generating Rs 5.95 billion in customs revenue.

This fiscal year, a total of 24,939 unassembled motorcycles worth Rs 3.41 billion were imported through the Birgunj customs point, bringing in Rs 3.28 billion in revenue. In contrast, 19,489 unassembled motorcycles worth Rs 2.49 billion had been imported during the same period last year.

Similarly, 330 jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 620.4 million were imported this fiscal year, generating Rs 1.75 billion in revenue. In the same period last year, 432 jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 760.5 million were imported, contributing Rs 1.96 billion in revenue.

The customs office also recorded a significant rise in the import of electric vehicles. In the first three months of this fiscal year, 229 electric jeeps, cars, and vans worth Rs 680.5 million were imported via Birgunj, generating Rs 457.2 million in revenue.

In comparison, during the same period last year, only 97 electric vehicles worth Rs 144.9 million were imported through Birgunj, contributing Rs 91.1 million in revenue.
