Armed Police Force launches patrolling and public announcements in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: With the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in most parts of the country from October 3 to 6, the Armed Police Force (APF) has started patrolling and public announcements in vulnerable areas of Kathmandu from Friday evening.

According to APF Deputy Spokesperson Shailendra Thapa, patrolling and awareness campaigns have been carried out in Chobhar, Balkhu, Balaju, Machhapokhari, Baneshwor, and other risk-prone areas. Residents near rivers and flood-prone settlements have been urged to remain alert and immediately call 1114 in case of emergency rescue needs.

Meanwhile, the APF has placed units nationwide on standby with resources and equipment for disaster preparedness and response. APF Inspector General Raju Aryal has instructed all units to remain fully prepared with rescue personnel, divers, trained disaster responders, rafts, motorboats, heavy equipment, and ambulances ready for deployment.

Earlier today, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal reviewed the disaster preparedness and mobilization plans of the APF units in the Valley. On the occasion, Additional Inspector General Narayan Dutta Paudel and commanders of Valley-based units briefed the minister about readiness measures, according to Thapa.
