Prime Minister directs authorities to step up disaster preparedness and response

KATHMANDU: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has directed the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, provincial disaster management committees, district committees, and local committees to enhance preparedness and response efforts with high urgency.

Issuing a statement today, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat urged all bodies to ensure effective preparedness, response, search and rescue, relief, and rehabilitation measures to minimize risks from disasters.

Citing the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces between October 3 and 6, the Secretariat called for heightened vigilance in vulnerable areas.

The statement further advised residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer, higher grounds in advance, and emphasized special preparedness for pregnant women, children, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and critically ill patients. Citizens have also been requested to avoid traveling to risk-prone areas as per official advisories.
