Passenger bus plunges off cliff near Aanbukhaireni, Tanahun

KATHMANDU: A passenger bus has veered off the road and plunged down a slope from Aina Paharo along the Muglin–Pokhara highway, near Aanbukhaireni in Tanahun.

According to police, the bus (registration number Ga 2 Kha 1077), en route from Gorkha to Narayangadh, fell approximately 50 meters down the hillside, coming to a stop just short of the Marshyangdi River.

Two passengers have sustained serious injuries, while three others were slightly injured.

The bus remains precariously stuck on the slope and narrowly avoided falling directly into the river. Police have taken the driver into custody.

Authorities suspect that additional passengers might still be trapped in the front section of the vehicle, which has been heavily damaged. A crane has been dispatched to pull the bus up, after which the full extent of the situation will be known, according to the Aanbukhaireni police post.

The site has a history of similar accidents in the past.
