JUMLA: Dhimichaur, located in Chandannath Municipality-4 of Jumla district, is rapidly gaining recognition as a domestic tourist destination.
Known for its natural beauty and scenic views, Dhimichaur is attracting increasing numbers of both domestic and foreign visitors.
Locals say tourists are drawn to the area to experience the blooming wildflowers, enjoy the tranquil surroundings, and take in the panoramic landscapes.
Surendra Bahadur Mahat, Mayor of Chandannath Municipality, stated that the steady rise in domestic tourism is due to the site’s growing appeal. He added that the local government is working to further promote tourism by improving infrastructure and organizing tourism-friendly activities.
“A road has already been expanded to improve access to the area, and plans are underway to upgrade it further,” said Mayor Mahat. “Located just an hour’s walk from the district headquarters in Khalanga, Dhimichaur is seeing an increasing number of domestic visitors.”
Situated in the heart of a dense forest, Dhimichaur is a vast open field that becomes especially vibrant during the months of August and September. According to local resident Himmat Budhathapa, the area sees a surge in visitors on Fridays, Saturdays, and public holidays.
However, with the increase in footfall, concerns over environmental degradation have also surfaced. Local resident Laxmi Khatri noted that waste such as biscuit wrappers, plastic noodle packaging, glass bottles, energy drink cans, and water bottles are now commonly found scattered across the area up to Patan.
“Tourist activity brings economic opportunities, but it also increases waste. It’s essential to install garbage disposal facilities at key locations to manage the growing litter problem,” she emphasized.
“Dhimichaur was once a traditional cattle grazing site used by our ancestors during the rainy season,” Khatri added. “Today, it has transformed into a major destination for domestic tourism. With proper infrastructure development and environmental management by the local government, tourism here could flourish even more, significantly benefiting the local economy.”
