Drinking water supply restored in two settlements of Kavre’s Balthali

KAVREPALANCHOK: The flood-damaged drinking water project in Balthali, located in Panauti Municipality-11, has been reconstructed.

The Nepane-Fangkhola Drinking Water and Sanitation Project, which was severely damaged by the flood in September last year, has been rebuilt using a gravity-fed system, restoring water supply to residents of two settlements.

A total of 123 households in Nepane and 72 households in Dandagaun have now been reconnected under the “One House, One Tap” program. Originally constructed in 2047 BS, the project had previously suffered damage during the 2072 BS earthquake and again in the recent floods.

It has now been restored with financial support from donor organizations, making access to drinking water easier for local residents, said Krishna Kumar Tamang, Chairperson of the Consumers’ Committee.

According to Tamang, two water tanks, each with a capacity of 20,000 liters, and 123 taps have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 199,400. An additional Rs. 418,000 was contributed through community labor.

All 123 families in Nepane belong to the Tamang community. Ward Chairperson Bipin Lama informed that local children have also been educated on the safe use of drinking water, the role of consumers in maintaining water quality, and sanitation practices.

He added that during the immediate aftermath of the disaster, temporary water supply arrangements were made using resources provided by the municipality.
