HETAUDA: Bagmati Province Chief Minister (CM) Bahadur Singh Lama is expected to resign from his post today.
Lama faced pressure to step down after losing to Indra Bahadur Baniya in the Nepali Congress (NC) Bagmati Province parliamentary party election on July 30. He has decided to resign on Sunday morning in Hetauda.
Baniya and Lama held joint discussions with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday. Ram Krishna Chitrakar, deputy leader of the parliamentary party who participated in the talks, said that Lama is prepared to resign following the meeting with Deuba.
Lama had earlier appointed Govinda Lamsal, Maya Shrestha, and Geeta Gurung—also chief whips of the Nepali Congress Bagmati Province Assembly—as ministers.
Although preparations were made for their swearing-in last Wednesday, the ceremony was halted due to opposition from the ruling CPN-UML.
A swearing-in scheduled for Thursday afternoon was also canceled after Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota suddenly fell ill and traveled to Kathmandu.
