Heavy rain triggers flood warnings in several districts

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public to remain cautious as water levels in several rivers are rising due to continuous rainfall in various parts of the country.

According to the Department, the water level at the Hanumante Khola, recorded at the Kaushaltar Hydrological Station in Bhaktapur, is nearing the alert level and continues to rise. Residents living near the riverbanks and those traveling along the river are advised to remain vigilant until tomorrow morning.

Similarly, the water levels at the Thulo Bheri and Rimna Hydro Stations in Rukum Paschim are also near the alert mark and increasing. Low-lying areas and settlements along the riverbanks are already experiencing inundation, prompting the Department to issue a warning for increased caution.

In Myagdi district, the water levels at the Myagdi Khola and Mangalaghat Hydrological Stations have crossed the alert level. Due to the rising river levels and the area’s weak, steep terrain, there is an elevated risk of landslides.

The Department issued a midnight advisory urging people in these vulnerable zones to exercise caution.
