Unified Socialist confirms seeking clarification from Ram Kumari Jhakri

KATHMANDU: The CPN (Unified Socialist) has officially confirmed that it has sought a clarification from its Standing Committee member Ram Kumari Jhakri over her recent remarks.

Speaking to reporters after Thursday’s Central Secretariat meeting held at the party’s Aloknagar headquarters, party Vice-Chair Jagannath Khatiwada said that the party’s Disciplinary Commission had sent a formal notice to Jhakri requesting an explanation within a stipulated timeframe.

Earlier in the day, Jhakri had arrived at the party office herself and dismissed the reports of a clarification being sought as “baseless.” However, the party leadership now says a notice has indeed been issued, and they expect her response on time.

Jhakri has come under scrutiny after she openly criticized the party leadership and called for an early general convention during a recent speech. Her statements have triggered internal debate, with some party leaders seeing it as a breach of discipline.

Vice-Chair Khatiwada said Thursday’s Secretariat meeting also discussed the corruption case linked to party Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal involving the Patanjali land controversy, current national political developments, and internal organizational matters.

Senior leaders including Vice-Chair Dharmanath Sah, Deputy General Secretary Metmani Chaudhary, and Rajendra Rai presented their views during the meeting. Due to the absence of several senior leaders owing to health reasons, the meeting was later adjourned.

The party has announced that the next meeting of the Central Secretariat will convene on July 6.
