Journalist Dil Bhusan Pathak appears before Kathmandu District Court in cybercrime case

KATHMANDU: Journalist Dil Bhusan Pathak appeared before the Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday after a cybercrime case was filed against him.

According to court officials, Pathak’s statement has begun before the bench of Judge Khem Raj Bhatta. Following the statement recording, a detention hearing will be held to determine whether he will be released or held in custody during the trial.

The District Government Attorney’s Office in Kathmandu filed the case earlier this week based on an investigation report submitted by the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police.

The complaint stems from a controversial video related to Hilton Hotel, in which Pathak allegedly linked Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s son, Jaiveer Singh Deuba. A formal complaint had been filed with the Cyber Bureau citing defamation and cyber offense.

The case has drawn significant public and media attention, raising concerns about freedom of expression and the boundaries of digital journalism in Nepal.
