Elephant tramples man to death in Jhapa

JHAPA: A 59-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Birtamod Municipality-7, Jhapa, early this morning.

According to Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the District Police Office, Jhapa, the deceased has been identified as Lok Prasad Limbu. The fatal incident occurred in Phaktalung, right in front of Limbu’s residence.

Police said the elephant attacked Limbu without warning, and he died on the spot.

Jhapa district, which borders forest areas and wildlife corridors, has seen a rise in incidents involving human-wildlife conflict in recent years, especially during the monsoon season when elephants are more active in search of food.

Local authorities and forest officials are assessing the situation, and security measures are being discussed to prevent further such incidents.
