NDRRMA commits to effective implementation of monsoon preparedness plan



KATHMANDU: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has expressed its commitment to effectively implement the National Monsoon Preparedness and Response Plan.

In a press conference held on Tuesday, the authority pledged to apply lessons learned from past experiences and carry out the plan efficiently to minimize damages this year.

Acting Executive Chief Bandhu Prasad Bastola stated that the authority will enhance disaster early warning systems and strengthen coordination and cooperation among concerned agencies in view of the upcoming monsoon season.

He stressed on reinforcing the early warning and information system to deliver timely alerts to vulnerable groups, areas, and communities.

Bastola reaffirmed the commitment to the effective implementation of the preparedness and response plan. This year, the authority estimates that around 2 million people could be affected by the monsoon. The authority also highlighted plans to strengthen the disaster management system to ensure effective coordination during crises.

Meanwhile, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has projected that most parts of the country will receive above-average rainfall this monsoon season.
