Nepal records highest monthly tourist arrivals in five years

KATHMANDU: Nepal welcomed a record number of foreign tourists in April, with over 116,000 visitors arriving in the country—the highest monthly figure in the past five years.

According to data from the Nepal Tourism Board, a total of 116,490 foreign tourists visited Nepal in April 2025, up from 111,376 in April 2024 and 98,773 in 2023.

The consistent growth in tourist arrivals since the COVID-19 pandemic reflects a strong recovery in the tourism sector and increasing global interest in Nepal, the Board noted in a recent press release.

Of the total arrivals in April, Indian tourists topped the list with 25,933 visitors, followed by 10,053 from the United States, 9,037 from China, and 6,838 from the United Kingdom.

The Board reported a 106.5% increase in tourist arrivals compared to April 2019, prior to the pandemic. Nepal Tourism Board CEO Deepak Raj Joshi described the April figures as highly encouraging, saying, “This surge is a testament to Nepal’s enduring appeal and vibrant tourism culture.”

From January to April this year, Nepal has received a total of 415,048 foreign tourists.

The arrival numbers have seen steady growth since the start of the tourist season in March, with April setting a five-year record.
