Employees break lock, allow KMC Chief Administrative Officer back into office

KATHMANDU: After nearly four months, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Saroj Guragain entered his office on Thursday, following a dramatic turn of events where employees and local representatives broke the lock placed by Mayor Balen Shah’s secretariat.

City Police Chief Rajunath Pandey, who had been guarding the locked office, had earlier refused to open it without direct orders from Mayor Shah. However, frustrated employees, who have not received their salaries for three months, took matters into their own hands and forced open the lock, allowing Guragain to enter.

Despite being let into the office, Guragain only stayed for a short time before leaving.

Mayor Shah had previously accused Guragain of authorizing the illegal construction of the Kathmandu Tower building. Following these allegations, Guragain’s office was locked.
