NEA leadership dispute hearing continues today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is set to continue hearing the writ petitions concerning the appointment of the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) today.

The case, involving outgoing Managing Director Kulman Ghising and newly appointed Managing Director Hitendra Dev Shakya, has drawn significant attention.

A joint hearing on the petitions filed by both Ghising and Shakya is being conducted by a bench comprising Justices Kumar Chudal and Nityanand Pandey. The proceedings, which began on Tuesday, remained inconclusive as of yesterday, leading to an extension of the hearing.

Ghising has demanded an interim order against his removal, arguing that the government dismissed him while his term was still ongoing. He claims that his removal was unjust and has sought judicial intervention to restore his position.

On the other hand, Shakya has contested Ghising’s reappointment, arguing that his own removal from the NEA four years ago was unlawful.

He has urged the court to withhold Ghising’s petition from moving forward until his own case regarding the legitimacy of the appointment process is heard.
