KATHMANDU: The Janmat Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party, both prominent Terai-Madhes-centered political forces, are nearing the final stage of their unification process.

Leaders from both parties have been engaged in intensive discussions to merge and strengthen their collective stance on national and public concerns.

Task forces formed by both parties are in ongoing negotiations to finalize the terms of unification. Janmat Party Vice Chair Abdul Khan stated that internal and multilateral discussions are in progress, aiming to announce the unification by April 28.

He also confirmed that the party’s name, flag, and election symbol have been decided, with only the appointment of office bearers remaining.

According to the agreed framework, Janmat Party Chairperson CK Raut will lead the unified party, while Nagarik Unmukti Party Chairperson Ranjita Shrestha will serve as Co-Chairperson.

The party statute is currently being drafted and is expected to be approved by the central committees in the last week of April, followed by the formal unification announcement in the first week of May.

Nagarik Unmukti Party Chairperson Ranjita Shrestha confirmed that the task force discussions are progressing well and nearing conclusion. Similarly, Janmat Party spokesperson Dr. Sharad Singh Yadav also reaffirmed that the unification process is in its final phase.

The Janmat Party and the Nagarik Unmukti Party currently have six and four MPs, respectively, in the federal parliament.
