Machhindra completes a hat-trick in KP Oli Cup Football

KATHMANDU: Machhindra Football Club has secured its third consecutive KP Oli Cup title, defeating departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club 2-0 in the final match.

The match, held at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor, saw Machhindra take a 1-0 lead in the first half before sealing the victory with another goal in the second half.

With this win, Machhindra received a cash prize of Rs 1,511,111, while runner-up Army Club took home Rs 500,000. The opening goal came in the 29th minute when Army’s Bimal Pandey scored an own goal from Andres Nia’s pass, giving Machhindra an early advantage. In the 72nd minute, Stephen Jamaha netted the second goal from a pass by Mallik Yusuf, securing the victory.

Earlier, Machhindra had defeated Bhutan’s Transport United 1-0 in the first round and thrashed KP Oli FC 4-0 in the semifinal. Army Club, on the other hand, beat Nepal Police Club 2-0 in its opening match and Sankata Club 2-1 in the semifinal.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, accompanied by his wife Radhika Shakya, attended the final match. Former Italian football captain and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was present as the chief guest. The stadium was packed with spectators, and the event featured musical performances before the match. The championship, organized by the National Youth Association Nepal, began on February 23.
