One killed, one injured in road accident



MANAHARI: A person died while another person was injured in a road accident that took place in Manahari of Makawanpur along the East-West Highway today.

The accident took place when a motorcycle (Na. 16 Pa. 3181) heading towards Hetauda was hit by a truck (Na. 6 Kha. 4055) heading towards the same direction at the Manahari Bridge.

Pillion rider Neem Bahadur Thapa, 56, of Pithuwa, Ratnanagar-16, Chitwan died in the accident while the motorcycle driver, Ramji Gautam, 55, of the same place, sustained injuries. Thapa, who suffered serious head injuries, died during treatment at Manahari Hospital.

Gautam has been referred to Chitwan for further treatment, according to the police.

The police have taken the truck and its driver under control for necessary action.

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased blocked the East-West Highway in front of the District Police Office, Makawanpur, for about an hour, demanding appropriate compensation and action against those involved in the incident.

Traffic resumed after assurances to address their demands, said District Police Office Spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Aryal.
