Mukkumlung tension: Protest at Maitighar against cable car (Pics)

KATHMANDU: Indigenous communities from the Pathibhara area of Taplejung staged a protest in Kathmandu on Monday regarding the construction of a cable car in their region.

The protesters are alleging that a private company, led by Chandra Dhakal, was granted permission to build the cable car in the Pathibhara area without consulting the local residents.

As part of the protest, a symbolic demonstration was held at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu, featuring a street play that depicted the violent clash that occurred in the Pathibhara area.

During that clash, four people were injured when locals clashed with police who had been deployed to suppress protests against the cable car project.

The Mukkumlung Tangsepa Chumbo and the Mukkumlung Protection Inter-Party Struggle Committee also joined the protest in Maitighar, voicing their opposition to encroachment in Mukkumlung.

A street play was also performed during the event to raise awareness about the issue.
