Prachanda emphasizes clear intent for good governance

KATHMANDU: Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stressed the importance of clear intentions and loyalty from political leadership to establish good governance in Nepal.

Speaking at the handover program of the Kathmandu branch of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, he highlighted that discussing ideals is not enough; the key is to put those ideals into practice with integrity.

“Many of us talk about ideals, but what matters is how we act in practice. Intention and loyalty are what really count,” said Dahal. “Are we truly fighting corruption and advocating for good governance with sincerity? Has Nepali society seen this from political parties and the government? These are serious questions that need answers.”

Dahal also pointed out the critical role of the Nepali journalism sector in driving political change and stabilizing the country.

He acknowledged the sector’s historical contributions, stating, “The role of Nepali journalism in the war, peace process, and constitution-making has been unforgettable and is well-recorded in history.”

In the age of information and digitalization, Dahal recognized both the opportunities and challenges faced by the journalism sector. He emphasized the responsibility of the Federation of Nepali Journalists to combat the spread of false and misleading information globally.

“With the expansion of digital networks, we face many challenges, and the Federation must be vigilant in facing these issues,” he said.

He also pointed out the lack of uniformity in the journalism field, citing the difficulties faced by working journalists and the manipulative tactics used by large media houses to defame individuals.

He urged the Federation of Nepali Journalists to be proactive against such malicious propaganda, which he warned would not strengthen the integrity of journalism in Nepal.
