Paddy import up 60% from Birgunj

KATHMANDU: Rice imports through the Birgunj Customs Office have seen a significant rise in the first five months of the current fiscal year.

Rice worth Rs 3.93 billion was imported during this period, marking a 60.28 percent increase compared to the same period last fiscal year.

Revenue collection from rice imports has also surged, with a 145.23 percent increase compared to last year. In the same period of the previous fiscal year, rice imports were valued at Rs 2.40 billion.

This fiscal year, a total of 8.866 million kilograms of rice worth Rs 928.9 million has been imported.

This marks a 54.12 percent increase in the quantity of rice imported and a 20.88 percent increase in revenue collection compared to the same period last year.
