Govt extends committee tenure for assessing Gen-Z movement damages, announces key appointments



KATHMANDU: The government has decided to extend by 30 days the tenure of the committee tasked with assessing damages and planning the reconstruction of public infrastructure affected during the Gen-Z protests.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel said the decision was taken at the Council of Ministers meeting on December 1. The committee had been formed to evaluate damages to public property, physical structures, and private establishments during the protests on September 8 and 9, and to prepare reconstruction plans for public structures.

In addition, the council appointed Bhupal Baral, Revenue Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, as Chairperson of the Employees Provident Fund Operations Committee, and Deepak Shrestha as Member Secretary of the Lumbini Development Council.

The meeting also decided to amend the schedules under the Act on Remuneration, Facilities, and Other Service Conditions for Chief Justice and Supreme Court Judges, as well as for judges of High Courts and District Courts.

Other decisions include extending the tenure of three assistant Rathi officers of the Nepal Army, accepting the resignation of one Major General, and adjusting ward boundaries in Likhu Rural Municipality, Nuwakot, moving the center from Ward No. 3, Bhaladmi Danda, to Ward No. 4, Gadkhar.
