Home Minister Aryal assures smooth, secure elections despite escaped prisoners

DHANGADHI: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has urged the public not to be misled by doubts about the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5, 2026, despite a few weapons and escaped prisoners being at large.

Speaking at the inauguration of a Sudurpaschim Province-level security workshop jointly organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the province’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law on Tuesday, Aryal emphasized that the government is committed to conducting the election in a safe, fair, and independent environment.

“There is no reason for the election to be postponed due to any excuse or doubt. The government is committed to holding this election and all peace and security measures are being meticulously implemented,” he said.

The minister informed that currently 4,552 prisoners are at large across the country, though only a few are involved in severe crimes like homicide. He added that the government has already recovered 727 firearms.

Aryal also highlighted that the current government’s top priorities include upholding the rule of law, curbing administrative interference, and enforcing zero tolerance for corruption.

Referring to the recent Gen-Z protests and the incidents of September 8 and 9, the minister said, “Following the demands raised by the youth against misgovernance and irregularities, the government and home administration are faithfully working to maintain peace and security, control crime, ensure good governance, and provide coordinated services.”
