Playoff race heats up as NPL teams take the field



KATHMANDU: The second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) continues on Tuesday with two exciting encounters. Janakpur Bolts will clash with Chitwan Rhinos in the first match, while Pokhara Avengers and Karnali Yaks meet in the second, as teams vie for crucial points in the race to the playoffs.

In the first match of the day, Janakpur Bolts will take on Chitwan Rhinos at 11:45 am. Defending champions Janakpur are still searching for their first win of the season, having lost all four of their matches so far. They will be looking for a much-needed consolation victory, while Chitwan, currently on four points, will aim to defeat Janakpur and move closer to securing a playoff berth.

The second match, scheduled for 4 pm, will see Pokhara Avengers face Karnali Yaks. Both teams are struggling this season, with only two points each. Karnali have played five matches, while Pokhara have played four, and both remain at the lower end of the table.

After 19 games, the points standings have tightened. Unbeaten Sudurpaschim have already booked a playoff spot with 10 points. Kathmandu, with one match remaining, also sit on 8 points despite two losses.

Biratnagar, who have played five matches and suffered only one defeat, are level with Kathmandu on 8 points. Kathmandu hold second place on net run rate, with Biratnagar in third.

Chitwan and Lumbini both have four points. Lumbini have played five games, while Chitwan have played four; Chitwan occupy fourth place on net run rate, with Lumbini fifth. Karnali and Pokhara sit sixth and seventh respectively with two points each. Janakpur remain at the bottom of the table without a single point.
