KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) to immediately remove contractual employees recruited through personal or political connections.
In her capacity as the Minister for Tourism, Prime Minister Karki summoned the corporation’s board members and senior management officials to Singha Durbar on Sunday and issued the instruction.
Stating that the once-proud national carrier has now fallen into a dismal state, she urged the officials to take firm and impartial action to eliminate irregularities within the corporation.
Karki also emphasized the need to implement past reform recommendations with a clear plan and cautioned officials not to entertain any undue or illegal pressure from external sources.
She further questioned the practice of sending aircraft engines for maintenance and failing to bring them back, while using leased engines that incur heavy expenses.
At the meeting, Acting General Manager, Janakraj Kalakheti presented the corporation’s current financial status, revealing accumulated losses exceeding Rs 17 billion.
