Kagbeni–Chhusang road reopens after repair, restoration work continues in Chaile

MUSTANG: The nine-kilometer Kagbeni–Chhusang section of the Korala border road, which was blocked due to continuous rainfall on Thursday night, has reopened after repair and maintenance.

According to the District Police Office, Mustang, the road was cleared and brought into operation on Sunday following coordinated efforts involving the District Administration Office, Baragung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality, security agencies, and the Kaligandaki Corridor (Beni–Jomsom–Korala) Road Project.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chhiring Kippa Lama said that with the reopening of the road, more than 350 stranded vehicles in Baragung Muktichhetra-3, Chhusang, have resumed their journey toward their destinations.

“Vehicles, including jeeps, cars, motorcycles, and goods carriers, that were stuck in Chhusang are now heading toward Jomsom,” Lama said, adding that police are still collecting detailed data on the number of vehicles affected.

While the Kagbeni–Chhusang section has reopened, the road at Chhaile in Baragung Muktichhetra-3 remains obstructed. A team with equipment has been deployed to repair the section.

“There is a problem in Chaile where about a 35-meter stretch of the road, including a recently constructed retaining wall and filled area, has collapsed due to a landslide. We are working to reopen it by this evening,” Lama said.

Another team from Lomanthang Damodarkunda Rural Municipality has also reached the site to assist with the restoration efforts.
