Nepali Congress holding central committee meeting today

KATHMANDU: The central working committee meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC), which was postponed on Friday, will now take place today at 1 p.m.

The party continues to face internal disputes over the timing of its 15th General Convention. Efforts to reach a consensus during a meeting of office bearers in Sanepa on Saturday failed to produce an agreement, as differing factions proposed separate agendas.

General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma had suggested that General Convention members should vote to decide whether the convention should be held before or after the upcoming elections.

Ahead of today’s central committee meeting, Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka has called an early morning meeting of senior leaders, including both general secretaries, in Dhobighat, Lalitpur, at 9 a.m., in a last-minute bid to build consensus.
