KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged residents to remain vigilant as dengue infections continue to spread through mosquito bites.
According to Rishi Prasad Bhusal, focal person for KMC’s Epidemic Disease Prevention and Control Programme, efforts are underway across all wards to identify mosquito breeding sites and destroy larvae. These activities involve health workers, female community health volunteers, and local residents.
Bhusal noted that, based on trends from previous years, the dengue transmission rate tends to fluctuate, but KMC is making maximum efforts to reduce the fatality rate within the city.
KMC has stated that transmission is generally highest during the monsoon and post-monsoon months (August to November).
Dengue is transmitted by the Aedes mosquito, which breeds in clean, stagnant water.
