Petroleum imports worth Rs 155 billion through Birgunj border in 10 months

PARSA: Petroleum products worth Rs 155.94 billion have been imported through the Birgunj border in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year.

The imports include diesel, petrol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene.

Compared to the same period last fiscal year, the total import value of all five petroleum products decreased by Rs 1.35 billion, or 0.86 percent.

Despite the slight decline in total imports, revenue collection from petroleum products has increased significantly.

According to Deepak Lamichhane, Chief Customs Administrator at the Birgunj Customs Office, the quantity of imported petroleum products declined, but revenue collection rose due to price and tax adjustments.

In the 10-month period, the customs office collected Rs 64.5 billion in revenue from petroleum imports, compared to Rs 58.48 billion in the same period last year—an increase of 10.31 percent.

By the end of Baisakh, 929,700 kiloliters of diesel worth Rs 79.52 billion were imported, down from 813,846 kiloliters worth Rs 83.47 billion in the same period last year. Revenue from diesel imports increased to Rs 35.7 billion, up from Rs 32.72 billion.

Similarly, 367,344 kiloliters of petrol worth Rs 31.71 billion were imported this fiscal year, compared to 326,387 kiloliters worth Rs 32.6 billion in the same period last year.
