KATHMANDU: The United People’s Movement Committee has withdrawn the planned shutdown of the Kathmandu Valley scheduled for today.
In a statement, the committee said the decision was made after all its detained members were released on June 2.
It should be noted that Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N) Chair Kamal Thapa, lawmaker Deepak Singh, and five others detained during a royalist protest on Sunday afternoon were released in the evening.
According to Kathmandu District Police, a total of seven individuals detained from Narayanchaur were freed, while one remains in custody as investigations continue.
The group was detained after attempting to breach a restricted area and march towards Baluwatar. Lawmaker Singh was reportedly arrested while on his way to meet Chair Thapa.
