Nepali Embassy urges impartial probe into Krisa’s death at KIIT

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Embassy in India has called for an impartial investigation into the death of Prisa Sah, an 18-year-old Nepali student at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in the Indian state of Odisha.

In a statement issued Friday, the embassy said it had summoned officials from the institute to gather information about the incident.

It also confirmed that Ambassador Dr. Shankar Sharma had spoken with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the state’s Chief Secretary, conveying condolences and urging a fair and transparent investigation.

“The embassy has been in regular contact with the Indian central government, the Odisha Chief Minister’s Office, relevant authorities, and Nepali students at KIIT,” the statement said.

Upon learning of the incident, the embassy immediately reached out to representatives of the institute, local police, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other concerned stakeholders.

The embassy emphasized the need for an independent investigation and stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of all Nepali students at the institute.

The embassy also noted that it has received directives from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office and is maintaining close communication with the deceased student’s family.

Prisa, a first-year undergraduate student, was found hanging in her hostel room. The embassy said it was informed of the incident on Thursday.
