PM Oli meets former President Bhandari amid rising intra-party tensions

As discussions of alternative leadership within the CPN-UML gain momentum, Prime Minister and party chairperson KP Sharma Oli visited former President Bidya Devi Bhandari in Budhanilkantha on Thursday.

Oli, after securing approval for his political report in the party’s secretariat meeting earlier in the day, spent two hours in discussion with Bhandari at her residence.

According to Oli’s secretariat, the meeting focused on recent political developments and the party’s internal dynamics.

PM Oli’s political report seeks to justify alliance with Nepali Congress

The ruling CPN-UML’s 43rd secretariat meeting, held on Thursday, focused on preparations for the party’s central committee meeting scheduled for January 5 and 6.

The three-hour meeting at Chyasal revolved around the political report to be presented by party chair KP Sharma Oli during the central committee session.

Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali shared that the report, prepared by Oli, examines the current political scenario and the rationale behind UML’s alliance with the Nepali Congress.

Maoist Center concludes Nepal is becoming a geopolitical battleground

The opposition CPN (Maoist Center) has concluded that Nepal is moving toward becoming an epicenter of geopolitical tension between global powers.

Vice-Chairperson Agni Prasad Sapkota briefed the media on Thursday following the party’s Standing Committee meeting in Kathmandu.

He stated that geopolitical complexities and increasing rivalries between superpowers are creating a precarious situation for Nepal.

Fraud case in Swarnalakshmi Cooperative: Police recommend naming 44, including Rabi Lamichhane, as defendants

The District Police Office, Kathmandu, has submitted a report recommending that 44 individuals, including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane, be named defendants in the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative embezzlement case.

Lamichhane, who is currently in Kaski police custody for alleged fraud in the Suryadarshan Cooperative case in Pokhara, faces accusations of misappropriating funds from Swarnalakshmi Cooperative in Kalimati, Kathmandu.

On Thursday, police submitted their report to the office of the district attorney, Kathmandu, suggesting legal action against Lamichhane and 43 others.

Parliamentary committee unanimously approves amendment to Prevention of Corruption Act

The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the Parliament has unanimously approved the bill to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In a meeting held on Thursday, the committee passed the amendment bill alongside the report prepared by a subcommittee led by Nepali Congress MP Hridaya Ram Thani.

Committee Chairperson Ramhari Khatiwada confirmed that the bill, submitted with the subcommittee’s recommendations, received unanimous support during the session.

PM Oli and former Sri Lankan President Wickremesinghe hold talks

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, met today at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

The two leaders engaged in discussions on various issues of mutual interest, focusing on strengthening the bilateral relations between Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The meeting also saw the presence of Member of the House of Representatives and prominent industrialist Binod Chaudhary.

Earthquake tremors felt in Kathmandu

Tremors of an earthquake were felt in the Kathmandu Valley at 1:03 pm on Thursday.

According to the Android Earthquake Alert System, the epicenter of the earthquake was located two kilometers from Jyamire in Dhading district.

This earthquake follows a series of seismic activities reported in the far western region of Nepal over the past few weeks.

Activists detained in Taplejung as Mukkumlung conservation dispute escalates

Police arrested three young individuals from Taplejung Bazaar on Wednesday night over allegations of involvement in the conservation movement of Mukkumlung/Pathibhara, escalating tensions further in the region.

According to activist Saru Singak, an advisor to the Mukkumlung Joint Struggle Committee and a leading figure in the “No Cable Car” campaign, the arrested individuals Janam Idhingo Limbu, Sanjog Nugo, and Sushil Nugo had traveled from Ilam to visit the sacred site of Mukkumlung.

They are currently being held at the District Police Office.

Govt investigating Shera Palace linked to former PM Prachanda

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has announced that a serious investigation is underway regarding the Shera Palace in Nuwakot, which has been linked to former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Speaking at a meeting of the State Management and Good Governance Committee of the Federal Parliament on Thursday, Lekhak assured that if the palace was illegally transferred to an individual’s name, it would be restored.

Young woman found dead in Kathmandu hotel

A young woman was found dead in a room at Bagmati Hotel in Gaushala, Kathmandu, on Wednesday, raising suspicions of murder.

The deceased has been identified as Sushmita Khadka from Kageshwori Manohara Municipality. She had checked into room number 308 of the hotel on December 31 with a man who has since gone missing.
