NPL takes a mid-tournament break as Sudurpashchim secure playoff berth



KATHMANDU: The second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) has taken a scheduled break on Monday, giving players a day of rest after a series of back-to-back matches.

The pause comes a day after Kathmandu Gorkhas defeated Karnali Yaks by five wickets in the 19th match, adding further intrigue to the points table.

Sudurpashchim Royals, the only unbeaten side so far, have already secured a spot in the playoffs with 10 points. Kathmandu, with one match remaining, have accumulated 8 points despite losing two games. Biratnagar Kings also sit on 8 points after dropping one of their five matches.

Based on net run rate, Kathmandu are placed second, followed by Biratnagar in third position.

Chitwan and Lumbini both have 4 points each. Lumbini have already completed five matches, while Chitwan have played only four. Chitwan hold the fourth position on net run rate, leaving Lumbini in fifth.

Karnali and Pokhara stand on two points each, occupying sixth and seventh positions respectively, while Janakpur remain at the bottom of the table without a single point.

All matches of the NPL’s second season are being held at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, with both day and night fixtures scheduled. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has been selling 9,450 tickets for every match.

The tournament, which began on Mangsir 1, will run until Mangsir 27 and features a total of 32 matches, including league-stage games, three playoff fixtures, and the final.

Ticket prices for Saturdays have been set at Rs 500 for general entry and Rs 1,500 for premium seating. For league matches on other days, the prices are Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 respectively. Post-playoff matches will cost Rs 1,000 (general) and Rs 2,000 (premium).

 

After Monday’s break, two matches are scheduled for Tuesday. Janakpur Bolts will face Chitwan Rhinos in the first game, while Pokhara Avengers will take on Karnali Yaks in the second.
