Haribodhini Ekadashi being observed today

KATHMANDU: Haribodhini Ekadashi, a major Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the preserver and sustainer of life, is being observed across the country today.

Devotees mark the occasion by observing a fast and taking ritual baths in rivers and ponds early in the morning, offering prayers to Lord Vishnu for blessings and prosperity.

According to Hindu belief, Haribodhini Ekadashi signifies the day when Lord Vishnu awakens from his four-month monsoon slumber. The following day, devotees celebrate the symbolic wedding of the sacred Tulasi (basil) plant, which was planted on Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi.

Traditionally, thousands of devotees visit major Vishnu temples — including Changu Narayan in Bhaktapur, Bishankhu Narayan in Lalitpur, and Sesh Narayan and Ichangu Narayan in Kathmandu — to offer prayers.

Ayurvedic experts highlights the medicinal significance of the Tulasi plant, noting that Tulasi tea helps boost immunity and is beneficial in protecting against viral infections.
