Streets in Kathmandu Valley deserted on Mahanavami

KATHMANDU: The streets of Kathmandu Valley appeared deserted on the day of Mahanavami, a major day of the Dashain festival.

As vehicles are also traditionally worshipped on this day, only a limited number of vehicles were seen on the roads. The capital was further quiet as a large number of people had returned to their hometowns to celebrate the festival.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, more than 553,000 people left the Valley during the eight days from Ghatasthapana to Tuesday.
