Devotees flock to Taleju Bhawani Temple on Mahanavami

KATHMANDU: On the occasion of Mahanavami, the Taleju Bhawani Temple in Kathmandu opened its doors to the public today, drawing an overwhelming crowd of devotees since early morning.

The temple, located at Hanumandhoka Durbar Square, remains closed to the public throughout the year except on the Ashwin Shukla Navami, or Mahanavami, when thousands gather to offer prayers and seek blessings.

This morning, long queues of devotees stretched from the temple premises through New Road’s Juddha Shalik and adjoining lanes, as worshippers waited patiently for their turn. Each year, hundreds of thousands of devotees throng the site on this day, considered highly auspicious in Hindu tradition.

The Taleju Bhawani Temple, built in the 16th century, is regarded as one of the most important religious sites in the Valley and holds special significance during the Dashain festival.
