Govt publicizes decisions of August 29 cabinet Meeting



KATHMANDU: The government has made public the decisions of the Cabinet meeting held on August 29.

Announcing the resolutions, government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, said the Cabinet had endorsed a wide range of agendas, from approving international participation to making new judicial appointments and endorsing policy reforms.

The Cabinet has approved the participation of government officials in a series of international events. Prof. Dr. Rampadarth Bichha, a member of the National Planning Commission, will take part in the 25th FIGO World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics in South Africa, while Finance Secretary (Revenue) Dinesh Ghimire will attend a high-level talks conference in Tokyo.

Similarly, Energy Secretary Sarita Dawadi will represent Nepal at the World Irrigation Forum in Malaysia, and Agriculture Secretary Dr. Govinda Prasad Sharma has been cleared to attend the “Dialog Next” program in India. The foreign minister will travel to Montenegro to receive the WPL Country Award 2025 on behalf of Nepal.

In judicial matters, the Cabinet has appointed Justice Sudarshan Dev Bhatt as chair of the Special Court, while Justices Narayan Prasad Paudel, Hemant Rawal, Dilliratna Shrestha, and Umesh Koirala have been assigned as members. Munendra Prasad Awasthi has been named Law Member and Chairman of the Revenue Tribunal in Nepalgunj, and advocate Kumari Kharel has been appointed to the Labor Court in Jhapa.

The meeting also decided to approve 58 temporary officer-level positions for the transitional justice commissions and 87 posts under the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation for the current fiscal year. Additional posts were sanctioned for the National Youth Council, the Fapla International Cricket Ground Development Committee, and the National Anti-Doping Agency, while the Department of Archaeology will receive 10 posts to support post-earthquake reconstruction.

Minister Gurung further informed that the Cabinet had endorsed the ninth amendment to the Debt Relief Regulations, the Third National Strategy for Public Financial Management Reform (2082–2087), and the second amendment to the National Sports Development Regulations. It has also approved the sixth phase of the COSCAP South Asia Project and ratified a labor agreement between Nepal and Saudi Arabia on general works recruitment.

Other notable decisions include granting Chief of Army Staff Maharathi Ashokraj Sigdel permission to participate in the 12th Beijing–Shanghai Forum in China, and Education Secretary Chudamani Paudel to attend a global higher education conference in London.

The government has also exempted royalty fees worth over RS 1 million to provide timber for the Navdurga Bhawani Devi festival in Lalitpur. Additionally, the Cabinet endorsed boundary adjustments for Shey-Phoksundo National Park and declared Chhayanath National Park along with its buffer zone.
