Public health alert issued as cholera spreads in Parsa
A cholera outbreak that was first confirmed on August 21 in Parsa district has continued to spread, with cases rising sharply in recent days. According to the District Public Health Office, a total of 169 cases have been confirmed in Birgunj Metropolitan City alone. Of these, 120 patients have recovered and returned home, while 49 remain under treatment at various hospitals in the district. In addition, 16 cases have been reported in Pokhariya Municipality, taking the total number of confirmed cases in Parsa to 185. New cases are being detected daily, between Saturday evening and Sunday morning alone, 31 fresh infections were confirmed.
Lekh Jung Thapa asked to submit divorce proof or risk losing nomination
Rupandehi-3 by-election candidate Dr. Lekh Jung Thapa of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has been asked by party secretariat and central committee members to provide official proof of divorce from one of his wives. Sources within the party indicate that failure to submit the required document could lead to the revocation of his nomination for the November 3 by-election. Senior RSP leaders reportedly visited party Chair Rabi Lamichhane at Nakkhu Jail on Monday to discuss the matter and decide on the next steps. Thapa has assured party officials that the divorce document exists and is prepared to present it to the party.
PM Oli addresses SCO Summit in Tianjin
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Plus Summit today, highlighting Nepal’s national interests as well as bilateral and international issues. The summit, which began on Sunday at the Tianjin Meijiayan Convention Center, brought together heads of state and government from participating countries, all of whom delivered speeches during the event.

Nepal has not endorsed China’s Global Security Initiatives: Yuba Raj Khatiwada
Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Economic and Development Advisor to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, has clarified that Nepal did not support China’s Global Security Initiatives (GSI) during bilateral talks between PM Oli and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Gold price hits new record in Nepal
Gold prices in Nepal continue to climb, breaking daily records as demand and international market trends push rates higher. On Monday, the price of gold reached Rs 205,300 per tola, setting a fresh all-time high, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association.

Over 2,000 delegates to attend UML’s second Statute General Convention
The UML is set to hold its second Statute General Convention from September 5 to 7 at Sunrise Hall in Godawari, Lalitpur, with preparations now nearly complete, the party’s central office confirmed. According to Rajendra Gautam, a Standing Committee member and head of the party’s Publicity and Publication Department, both the list of delegates and organizers has been finalized. Delegates from the party’s 10th National General Convention will serve as the representatives for the Statute General Convention, with names of leaders who have left the party, passed away, or faced disciplinary action removed from the list.

Image Savings Cooperative begins refunding depositors below Rs 100,000
Image Savings and Credit Cooperative has started returning deposits to savers with balances under Rs 100,000 in Pokhara. The cooperative has already refunded 613 depositors with small savings in Baglung and has now begun returning funds to 158 depositors at its Pokhara branch. Dilbahadur Karki, coordinator of the Cooperative Victims’ Struggle Committee, said that out of 524 members at the Pokhara branch, 158 have savings of less than Rs 100,000. He confirmed that their funds will be returned gradually.

Total lunar eclipse to be visible on night of September 7
A total lunar eclipse will be visible from Kathmandu on the full moon night of Bhadra, falling on Sunday, September 7. According to the Nepal Calendar Fixing Committee, the eclipse will begin at 10:11 pm on September 7 and continue for about three and a half hours, ending at 1:04 am on September 8.
Chitwan National Park to gift two elephant calves to Qatar
Chitwan National Park (CNP) is preparing to send two elephant calves, Rudrakali (7) and Khagendra Prasad (6), as diplomatic gifts to Qatar, according to Dr. Hari Bhandra Acharya, spokesperson for the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation. The calves, born at the Elephant Breeding and Training Centre in Khorsor, will be transported via a chartered cargo flight from Bhairahawa Airport within the next two months. The park is currently constructing a special enclosure to ensure their safe transfer.
Tourist arrivals surge during monsoon as over 88,000 visited Nepal in August
Nepal recorded a significant rise in tourist arrivals during the ongoing monsoon season, with August alone welcoming 88,680 visitors, according to figures released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) on Monday. Compared to the same period last year, arrivals in August rose by 22 percent, marking a strong sign of recovery for the country’s tourism industry.
