Hundreds displaced as Heavy rains flood 45 houses in Kanchanpur

KANCHANPUR: Continuous rainfall since Sunday night has caused flooding in Kanchanpur, submerging 45 houses, according to local authorities.

The floodwaters from rivers in Bhimdatta Municipality and Dodhara Chandani Municipality inundated several settlements. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sagar Bohara, spokesperson for the district police, reported that 25 houses in Rampure and Jarga Toles of Dodhara Chandani-8 were affected by the Jodbudha River flooding.

Additionally, 15 houses in Patarakhal, Dodhara Chandani-3, and 5 houses in Bhujela, Bhimdatt-11, were also submerged.

“Seventy people displaced from the 25 flooded houses in Dodhara Chandani have been relocated to a nearby school. Families, livestock, and belongings from the affected areas have been moved to safer locations,” Bohara said. He added that 55 people from Patarakhal, along with their belongings and livestock, have been sheltered at Jamuna Basic School nearby.

The heavy rainfall has also raised water levels in the Mahakali River. In response, the Indian side has suspended four-wheel and three-wheel transport at the Sharda Barrage. Bohara said the river’s water flow has reached 140,250 cubic meters per second, prompting the suspension of cross-border movement.
