RSP’s Ganesh Karki Calls for review of Rupandehi-3 candidate selection process

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) central member Ganesh Karki has urged a review and investigation into the selection process of Dr. Lekh Jung Thapa as the party’s candidate for the Rupandehi-3 by-election.

Karki made the statement just 14 hours after Thapa’s candidacy was announced. He cited past grievances following the 2022 elections, when proportional representation candidates were initially selected through 12 clusters, later consolidated into six clusters, leaving him excluded from parliamentary candidacy.

“I have repeatedly pointed out that the proportional representation MPs were elected through 12 clusters, and later six clusters were formed when selecting MPs, which excluded me,” Karki wrote on Facebook. “This time, I carefully observed the candidate selection process. While I did not find any apparent errors, there may be some weaknesses that require investigation and a final conclusion.”

Karki warned that unresolved disputes from previous proportional representation selections continue to resurface in various forms, creating doubts about new systems. “If potential errors are not properly addressed and clarified, they accumulate and cannot be contained,” he noted.

Regarding Thapa’s marital controversy, Karki stated that he was informed Thapa had legally divorced his previous wife and that their personal relationship remains cordial.

“I have learned that Thapa has completed a legal divorce from his former wife, but their relationship continues to be cordial. Once a relationship ends legally, other matters remain personal and familial. No one wants to live alone or dwell on a failed relationship forever,” Karki wrote.
