Lekh Jung Thapa ready to address marital controversy

KATHMANDU: Dr. Lekh Jung Thapa, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate for the upcoming Rupandehi-3 by-election, will hold a press conference on Monday to address recent reports about his marital status.

The party officially announced Thapa as its candidate for the by-election, scheduled for November 3, on Sunday. According to party spokesperson Manish Jha, Thapa will meet journalists at the party’s central office in Bansthali at 2 PM.

Following rumors that he has two wives, Thapa contacted senior RSP leaders to clarify that he has legally divorced one of his wives and possesses the necessary documentation.

“Thapa assured us he is not compromised in any way and can make all proof public if needed. He maintains that he has committed no wrongdoing and is prepared to face any consequences if necessary,” a senior RSP leader told Khabarhub.

A meeting with Thapa and several party leaders is scheduled at the central office, and sources indicate that he may present the documents during his press conference.

While the issue had not been formally raised in earlier meetings, some party members had circulated rumors. “Questions were raised about his personal life, but once the divorce was confirmed, there was nothing to act upon. In Rupandehi-3, the voters themselves have not raised this issue,” said an RSP leader.

Efforts to reach Thapa directly for comment were unsuccessful.
