17 injured in school van accident



JHAPA: Seventeen people, including the driver, were injured when a school van carrying students veered off the road and overturned in Khuttidangi, Mechinagar Municipality-9, today.

According to Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, Information Officer at the District Police Office, the student-carrying van (Me 1 J 3107) belonging to Parijat Public School veered off the road and crashed.

Although the van was small, it was packed with students. It was en route to the school when the accident occurred. After the crash, the van overturned and landed in a ravine.

The injured include six-year-old Sabiska Rai, four-year-old Sameera Bishunkhe, 10-year-old Aditya Rai, 11-year-olds Sadiksha Kafle, Sohit Rajbanshi, Ayan Subba, and Anurag Tamang, 12-year-olds Krishpa Rai, Sanyog Bishunkhe, and Ayani Bk, 11-year-old Pranish Rai, nine-year-old Samarpan Rai, six-year-olds Susita Kisan and Tansona Limbu, and nine-year-old Angu Magar, police said.

Teacher Preeti Shiva, 24, and driver Ganesh Shrestha, 45, were also injured in the accident. All the injured were initially taken to Mechi AMDA Hospital for treatment. Following doctors’ advice, most were later transferred to B&C Teaching Hospital in Birtamod for further care, according to police.

Immediately after the incident, a police team led by Inspector Pandav Rajbanshi from the Dhulabari Area Police Office reached the accident site. The van, whose front was severely damaged, has been taken into custody. Police confirmed that all the injured are out of danger.
