DDA orders halt to sale of unverified medicines promoted on social media

KATHMANDU: The Department of Drug Administration (DDA) has ordered the immediate halt of sales and distribution of several unverified medicinal products being promoted across social media and online platforms without scientific backing.

In a public notice issued with the names and photos of the products, the DDA warned that such items could pose serious risks to public health.

The products have been advertised on platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube, making unsubstantiated claims of curing chronic illnesses such as thyroid disorders, prostate problems, diabetes, uric acid buildup, obesity, sexual dysfunction, alcohol dependence, and even cancer.

Among the products flagged by the DDA are Paurush Health Jeevan, Paurush Jeevan, Diffusal-L, Kaya Plus, 100 Horse Power, 30 Minute Stop, Diabetic Control, Gymnema Sylvestre Capsule, and Booji.

“The use of these medicines without prescription or clinical evidence can result in serious health risks,” the notice signed by DDA Director General Narayan Dhakal stated. He further stressed that misleading advertisements guaranteeing complete cures or making baseless claims about sexual potency are dangerous and must be stopped immediately.

The department has urged the public not to consume such products and warned producers, distributors, and sellers of legal action. It reminded that, under Nepal’s Drug Act, the advertisement and sale of untested medicinal products is illegal. The DDA has also directed that such misleading advertisements be removed from social media without delay.
