KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that it would be appropriate to continue with the current coalition government led in partnership with CPN-UML.
Speaking at the ongoing Central Working Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress on Tuesday, Lekhak emphasized that the party should focus on strengthening the existing coalition rather than exploring alternatives.
“It is in the interest of the Nepali Congress to move forward by building consensus within the current coalition and including other political forces as needed,” he said.
Lekhak argued that discussions about replacing the government could derail long-term goals. “Talking about alternatives only distracts from our objectives. I urge everyone not to go down that path—it would not benefit the Nepali Congress,” he added.
Acknowledging the need for improvements, he said, “If there are shortcomings, we should work to correct them while continuing with the existing alliance.”
He also claimed that those representing the Congress in the government were operating according to the fundamental norms and practices of coalition governance. “We are trying to run the government properly based on those principles,” he said.
Admitting that mistakes may occur despite best efforts, Lekhak urged the party leadership to view such issues constructively. “Even with the best intentions, some weaknesses do occur. Many of you have served in government or are familiar with governance matters, so I request you to understand the context accordingly,” he concluded.
