KATHMANDU: Chair of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Ramhari Khatiwada, has briefed the Nepali Congress about alleged tampering in the federal civil service bill.
Speaking as a central committee member during the party’s ongoing meeting in Sanepa on Tuesday, Khatiwada said that a provision known as the “cooling-off period,” which had been unanimously approved by the parliamentary committee, was altered later.
He informed party members that the committee had initially agreed on including a cooling-off period provision but that this consensus was tampered with during the legislative process. He also revealed that just earlier on Tuesday, the committee had formally requested Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire to form a probe committee to investigate the matter.
Khatiwada told the meeting that he had sought the party’s approval to issue a public statement regarding the issue. He even read out a draft of the proposed statement to the central committee during the meeting.
