KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker and industrialist Binod Chaudhary on Tuesday hit back at senior leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala during the party’s central working committee meeting, questioning Koirala’s leadership intentions and defending his own political legitimacy.
Responding to Koirala’s earlier remarks doubting his qualifications to be a central committee member, Chaudhary said, “He (Koirala) questioned whether bringing someone like Binod Chaudhary into the committee four years ago was the right decision. I want to clarify—it was done according to due process, party rules, legal frameworks, and court rulings.”
Chaudhary went further, raising broader concerns about how the party views the role of private sector figures like himself. “Does this party want to permanently sideline people with real-world experience under the excuse of conflict of interest?” he asked. “Is that how we value professional expertise?”
He also alleged that Koirala was sheltering individuals who actively worked to defeat him in the last election. “People who campaigned house-to-house against me, placed people at booths to support Hridayesh Tripathi, and insulted senior party leaders are now being carried around by Koirala. Is this the vision for leading the party?”
Chaudhary’s rebuttal came after Koirala had questioned his eligibility for central committee membership on Monday, asking, “Did Binod Chaudhary meet the 10-year active membership requirement? Was his candidacy evaluated properly?”
Koirala had also recalled that Sujata Koirala had once been denied central committee candidacy due to similar eligibility concerns, despite her interest during the Girija Prasad vs. Sher Bahadur Deuba leadership race.
