Rupandehi Constituency-3 by-election scheduled for November 3

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the by-election for the vacant seat in Rupandehi Constituency No. 3 will be held on November 3.

The seat became vacant following the death of directly elected Member of Parliament Deepak Bohara on April 1.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat had notified the Commission that the seat had been vacated under Clause (f) of Article 89 of the Constitution of Nepal.

According to the law, if a parliamentary seat becomes vacant and more than six months remain in the term of the House of Representatives, it must be filled through the same electoral system under which the seat was originally secured. Following this provision, the Commission held a meeting on Monday and set the by-election date.

Commission Spokesperson and Joint Secretary Nita Pokharel Aryal urged the federal and provincial governments, local authorities, political parties, civil society, and voters to help ensure the by-election is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.

The Commission has also announced that the voter registration process at election offices has been suspended from Tuesday until further notice. Spokesperson Aryal stated that, in line with legal provisions, voter registration is paused once the election date is announced.
