PM Oli calls for rocket-speed development in Madhesh Province

JANAKPURDHAM: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said the development of Madhesh Province must now progress with the speed of a rocket, not at a sluggish pace like before.

Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the “One Electoral Constituency, One Paved Road” initiative organized by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Development of Madhesh Province in Janakpurdham, PM Oli stressed the need for unity among all levels of government and elected representatives to accelerate the region’s prosperity.

Describing Madhes as one of Nepal’s most fertile regions, PM Oli said its immense potential must be translated into practical outcomes. He highlighted that proper utilization of water from the Koshi River could irrigate the entire Madhes region, triggering a transformative change in agriculture.

He also mentioned the government’s prioritization of the Sunkoshi-Marin Diversion Project, while expressing dissatisfaction over delays by the contracting company. Warning that such delays would no longer be tolerated, he stated, “If the delays continue, the government will be compelled to terminate the contract.”

PM Oli equated inefficiency with corruption, calling the delay in development works a crisis as serious as corruption itself. “The government will now take strong action against sluggishness,” he asserted.

Calling the current pace of development unacceptable, he underscored the historical and cultural importance of the Mithila region, which he referred to as a former center of knowledge and philosophical thought. “It is unfortunate that a land once rich in intellect has lagged in development. But that era of lagging behind is over,” he said. “Now, Madhes must embark on a fast-paced journey of development.”

Urging local representatives and the provincial government to advance good governance and development together, PM Oli called for collective effort and asserted that the path to prosperity in Madhes can no longer be halted.
