Supreme Court to hear writ petition on NEA leadership dispute

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing of the writ petition concerning the leadership dispute at the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for a bench comprising Justices Kumar Chudal and Nityanand Pandey.

The case involves Kulman Ghising, who was removed from his position as Managing Director of NEA, and Hitendra Dev Shakya, who was appointed in his place.

The hearing was previously set for Sunday in a joint bench of Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut and Justice Saranga Subedi but was adjourned without proceedings.

Ghising has demanded an interim order against his removal, arguing that he was dismissed unfairly before the completion of his tenure. Meanwhile, Shakya contends that Ghising’s initial appointment was flawed, asserting that the current petition should not proceed until a decision is made on a writ petition filed four years ago concerning the same issue.

The case has drawn significant public interest, as Ghising is credited with resolving Nepal’s electricity crisis during his tenure.
